Status Update: The issue is resolving. Microsoft will continue to provide updates on their official status page: Azure Status Page.

This is the final update from Boltrics. If the problem persists or new issues arise, we will reopen this incident.

Recovering

Microsoft Current Status: We determined a number of links between two datacenters have become unavailable due to a fiber cut, caused by severe weather conditions in the Netherlands, predominantly impacting communications between these datacenters in the West Europe region. As a result of this interruption, Azure services that rely on internal communications with other services may experience degraded performance.

We are currently applying mitigation actions and monitoring the repair of the affected fiber. The next update will be provided in 60 minutes, or as events warrant.

Updated

Microsoft update: Our investigations are showing that service-to-customer communications over Internet/Express route are not experiencing impact currently, with impact predominantly to internal service-to-service communications from one datacenter to another datacenter in the West Europe region.

We are currently applying some mitigation actions and monitoring the status to confirm if the issue gets resolved. The next update will be provided in 60 minutes, or as events warrant.

Investigating

Update from Microsoft: Starting at 07:22 UTC on 05 Jul 2023, a subset of Azure customers in West Europe may experience packet drops, timeouts and increased latencies in responses. We determined a number of fiber links between datacenters have become unavailable due to a fiber cut. Automated systems are balancing load and rerouting traffic, but customers may still experience degradation.
